Set within Helsinki’s distinctive coastal landscape, the Humallahti renewal creates a new connection between the city and the sea. A new pedestrian and cycling bridge, accessible routes and places to pause by the water are carefully integrated into the rocky shoreline, making the waterfront more accessible while preserving its natural character.
The bridge becomes part of a wider landscape experience, with viewpoints, terraces and seating areas inviting people to slow down and enjoy the maritime setting. An accessible route follows the natural topography of the rocks, opening new perspectives towards the sea and connecting visitors with the cultural history of Humallahti.
The landscape strategy focuses on preserving and strengthening the existing environment. Sensitive vegetation and rocky terrain are protected, while new planting and habitat structures support biodiversity both on land and below the water surface.
Bringing together mobility, recreation, accessibility, cultural heritage and biodiversity, the renewal strengthens Humallahti as part of Helsinki’s maritime landscape and creates new ways to experience the waterfront.
