Concept design, building design

Nordic City Resort is a spa and hotel complex concept in the Kungens Kurva area in Stockholm, Sweden.

One of the strongest features of the region is that the design area is located on a high cliff. Instead of mining, the building is designed to be built directly over that rocky hill. Typical rock types of the bedrock could be used as surface materials to create a strong spatial experience that is based on the spirit of the place.

The entrance that is hollowed into the granite bedrock leads the visitor towards the whole central courtyard – piazza- which forms the heart of the whole building. All the key functions of the complex such as restaurants, spa, congress center and activity park have been placed around the piazza.

All hotel rooms and holiday apartments are located in a high triangular tower to guarantee maximum natural scenery. The high hotel tower also functions as a new landmark for the entire region. The high hotel tower offers the visitor a wonderful view over the Lake Mälaren – the third largest lake in Sweden. The vast lake landscape works as a counterbalance to intense and intimate interior spaces.
