As the shells that wash up on the shore of Lake Michigan, this structure spirals inward to create an inner core that provides both security, privacy and warmth. This layout works well for a variety of uses such as kiosk stand, sauna or performance backdrop. While the sauna extends the usefulness of the structure into the edges of winter, the form sits as a sculpture in the sand year round.

Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) is a relatively new building strategy in North America and this project demonstrates the values of the material; pre-fabrication, structural integration, interior fi nish integration, low embodied carbon footprint and the natural aesthetic quality of wood.
