We worked in close collaboration with OOPEAA Architects for this competition proposal which suggests the development of the plot of Vaasa’s old bus station into a city block of housing, commerce, culture, hotel and conference functions.

The functions of the music and congress centre become an important part of the whole and open towards the public square framed by a hotel tower. The lobby spaces open towards the square that easily becomes part of the functional event area. The halls of the music centre are based on an acoustically optimal shoebox-like solution. The congress complex is based on a versatile and flexible combination of halls and the meeting spaces in the upper floors. The spaces are connected to the indoor square of the building through the lobby spaces which makes the spaces accessible, flexible and suitable for diverse events.

The aim of the event centre is to become the neural centre of the city, bringing international know-how and expertise into Vaasa. The hotel acts as the vertical landmark of the project, tranforming the square into an urban meeting spot connected to the city centre functions with a new pedestrian and bicycle route.
