As a designer I am especially interested in building design. I am also inspired by combining new buildings with existing constructions and by restoring the old in contemporary ways. I think quality architecture begins at the details, which is why inspecting and drawing technical details is very close to my heart.

Since 2003 when I started working as a designer I have worked in various architecture offices in various projects of very different scales. I have had the possibility to experience the whole vast field of architecture, and my projects have also been successful in international competitions. The most important projects I have been working with are a private villa in Puumala and a new allotment area together with it’s cottages in Suutarila in Helsinki.

I have previously been working on projects such as the extension of the Pärjänkievari restaurant in Iso-Syöte, a private villa in the Archipelago Sea, housing buildings in Kalasatama in Helsinki and Cygnaeuksenpuisto in Jyväskylä, office building Derby in Espoo and the Kastelli multi-functional building in Oulu.

Lately I have been designing small-scale wooden buildings in the form of private houses and holiday homes. I would like to work with artistic projects and in workshop-like surroundings in the future in addition to working with projects traditionally associated with working as an architect.

I rarely put the pen down even in my free time, but instead I immerse into the world of cartoons and illustration. I take care of myself by running, yoga and swimming, and I keep my mind sharp by meditating every morning.

For me, the most important part of working as an architect is working together with the client to find the best possible solutions for each project in hand. I am at my strongest in projects that require a certain sensibility, a strong vision and balancing between different ambitions.

I have been an entrepreneur since 2007, acquainting myself with ecologically sustainable area planning and hospitality buildings such as hotels, other accommodation and leisure buildings. Design that is considerate of eco systems and is based on micro-climates and wind, sun and area analyses is my specialty.

The internationally renowned wooden building project in Anttolanhovi is an excellent example of a wide-ranging plan that was not limited to the building design but also included developing new hotel concepts, industrial design and integration of pieces of art. Other projects that have been important for me are for instance the Hannunkivi hotel, spa and leisure centre at Kivijärvi, Dream Hotel in Tampere and the on-going in Varjakka in Oulunsalo.

I am inspired by creative solutions and design tools to further develop carbon-neutral buildings, and I am planning on founding an information bank for the purpose. In my time off I enjoy gardening and renovating the protected Villa Svea.

I find it important to continuously learn new things in my work. I make things happen quite fast, and behind my laid-back cover you will find a very determined designer who wants to do things as planned and in time – without compromising on the aesthetics of the end result. I am also the CEO of Studio Puisto, and you are welcome to contact me if you have any questions or ideas whatsoever.

I have been working as a designer since 2005, working in various building projects of different scales from demanding renovations to school buildings and contemporary exhibition buildings. The most remarkable of these projects are the renovation and extension of the Stockmann department store in Helsinki, the Vanhalinna housing project in Helsinki, the Kastelli multi-functional building in Oulu and the Finnish Nature Centre Haltia, where I also worked as an exhibition architect. With Studio Puisto I have worked on the development plan of the old bus station in Vaasa, Dream Hotel and the Kivijärvi hotel, spa and leisure centre to name a few projects.

In my work I have been focusing on urban infills and on modern renovations and densification of the urban tissue. My work has gained success in several Finnish and international architecture competitions.

Wooden constructions and timber are my special interest. That is why in my free time I head to my summer cottage to work on wood or spend time cooking and doing sports.

In addition to concept design and renovation I am experienced in the field of cultural buildings such as theatres. My specialty is lighting design and sustainable building. Some of my important design projects include the Kivijärvi hotel, spa and leisure centre, the development plan of the old bus station in Vaasa and the plan to convert Alvar Aalto’s silo for woodchips in Oulu into a culture silo: a centre for art.

I have previously worked as a designer of the Wuxi Opera House by PES Architects and as the responsible project architect in the Kuopio City Theatre project designed by ALA Architects. My projects have also been awarded in international design competitions.

I spend my free time renovating an old timber building and playing football. I am the force behind the architects’ football tournament organized annually in Helsinki since 2008: the last years about 16 teams of architects from around the country have participated in the tournament, one of the largest recreational events in the architecture field. I am also actively participating in the functions of the Finnish Association of Architects and want to play my part in developing the field in Finland.

Having studied at TU Delft and later Aalto University, I am the international addition of Studio Puisto. I have been crowned more or less the official idea generator of the office, because I tend to have a solution for every situation. I see myself as a creative mind, and I am not afraid to dream big with the clients either.

I love to travel and getting to know other cultures is close to my heart. When traveling I pay close attention to how societies work and how people adapt to their surroundings. I am experienced in designing learning environments, and I have had the opportunity to work with the Wuxi International School project in China with PES Architects as well as the Opinmäki School with ERA Architects. Other important projects of mine include PES Architects’ Wux Opera House and Dream Hotel in Tampere. Like my colleagues I have had been lucky to succeed in several international architectural competitions.

In my free time I can most probably be found at my countryside house doing woodwork. To keep my mind and body in shape I ride the bicycle to work every morning all year – snow or no snow.
